Mount - February 19

Date: Sunday 19 February 2012

Scheduled Start Time: 9.00am

8:20am Briefing to take place
8:35am Warm-up
8:45am Marshalling into groups by your wave number
9:00am 1st Waves start! (Note: there could be more than 1 wave starting at each interval)

Location: Mount Maunganui

Venue: Pilot Bay

Duathlon Distance: Run/Walk 3.5km - Bike 10km - Run/Walk 1.5km

Triathlon Distance: Swim 400m – Bike 10km – Run/Walk 1.5km

Run/Walk Distance: 5km - Run/Walk

Online Entry Closing Date: Tuesday 14 February 2012 - Midnight

Registration/Goodie Bag Pick Up/Bike Drop Off - Saturday 18 February 2011 12 noon - 4pm

Parking: As there will be restricted road closures around the transition area, we advise you to park on Nikau Street and Rata Street - the streets adjacent to Coronation Park.

  • Registration is in the main marquee at Pilot Bay.
  • Registration is the process during which you pick up your goodie bag and receive all the information you need for event day.
  • If this is your first entry to the 2012 series, you will receive a complimentary REAL t-shirt.
  • You will also rack your bike in transition so allow some time to familiarise yourself with the layout of the bike compound and the run and bike entry and exit points.
  • We'll have a team of volunteers to help you and we have professional security looking after the bikes over night.

Pre-Race Briefing and Marshalling Point:

Your event starts at 9am. We would like all participants to be ready for the briefing and warm-up at 8:20am. Therefore we would be happy if you arrive at the venue at around 7:45-8:00am so we can organise you all with the briefing, a warm-up and then marshal you for the start.


Run/Walk 1 - 3.5km

Start on The Mall, where you will be marshalled through in wave colours.

Run/Walk to the end of The Mall, where you will be marshalled to the left past the boat ramp, to the wharf and onto the Mount Base Track.

Run/Walk to the turn around and head back along the Mount Track remaining left at all times.

Return back onto The Mall to enter Transition.


Transition – Run/Walk to Bike

Once you enter the transition area look for the colour of your row and you will find your transition spot. Once you reach your bike look for the bike exit sign.

Please don't mount your bike until you get to the mount bike sign as you exit transition on The Mall.


Bike Course - 10km

Mount your bike and ride up The Mall.

Turn right onto Adams Avenue.

Make a right turn onto Marine Parade.

Continue along Marine Parade until you come to the turnaround point.

Slow down at the turn around, just before Oceanbeach Road.

Return on the same route on Marine Parade.

Then Turn left into Prince Avenue.

Make a right turn into Victoria Road.

Then a right turn into Salisbury Avenue and into Transition with a right back onto The Mall.


Transition - Bike to Run/Walk


You will be asked to dismount your bike as you approach the transition area.

Cones and barriers will direct you into the transition. Look for the colour of your row and you will find your transition spot.


Run/Walk 2 – 1.5km

Look for the Run/Walk exit sign.

This will take you back onto The Mall where you will Run/Walk along to the boat ramp before the wharf to the turnaround.

Head back down The Mall where you will see the finish area to complete your Duathlon!

Swim – 400m

Start on Pilot Bay, where you will be Marshalled with a walk down The Mall to the starting area.

Swim 400m down Pilot Bay where you run/walk up the beach and into transition.

 

Transition – Swim to Bike

Once you enter the transition area look for the colour of your row and you will find your transition spot. Once you reach your bike look for the bike exit sign.

Please don't mount your bike until you get to the mount bike sign as you exit transition on The Mall.

 

Bike Course - 10km

Mount your bike and ride up The Mall.

Turn right onto Adams Avenue.

Make a right turn onto Marine Parade.

Continue along Marine Parade until you come to the turnaround point.

Return on the same route on Marine Parade.

Run/Walk to the end of The Mall, where you will be marshalled to the left past the boat ramp, to the wharf and onto the Mount Base Track.

Continue on the Mount Base Track past the 3.5 km turn around to the board walk near the Surf Club.

Turn right onto .Adams Avenue

Continue to turn left onto The Mall.

Head back down The Mall where you will see the finish area to complete your 5km event!
